Be the Customer: See Yourself as Your Customers Do

What do your customers experience when they interact with your business? As a mystery shopper, I help businesses see themselves through the eyes of their customers by posing as a typical customer and evaluating their service, quality and cleanliness. Was it easy to find what I needed? Were the employees polite and helpful? Was everything neat and clean? Was I thanked for my business? What happened when I made a return?

Whether your business is an international retailer or a small one-person shop, what you don't know about your customers' perceptions of your quality and service can hurt you. Put yourself in your customers' shoes and test your business. Depending on the characteristics of your business, you may conduct the evaluation of your business yourself, enlist the help of a few friends, or hire a mystery shopping company to implement a formal, ongoing program. You might be surprised (pleasantly or not) by what you learn.

Call your office. How long does it take to get an answer? Is there a professional greeting? What do you hear when you are put on hold? Go through the voice menus. Are any of them dead ends? How long does it take to get to a human, or at least a place where you can leave a message?

Call your order line and place an order. How long does it take to get the item? Was it packaged well and did it arrive safely? What else was in the package (e.g., a catalog, thank you note, extra gift)? Inquire about returning an item. Is the service you receive as good as that you got when you ordered? Does the customer service person try to save the sale by offering alternatives to meet your needs?

Walk through your retail location. Is merchandise attractively presented? Is everything clearly priced? Are the aisles clear so you can walk comfortably? Can a shopping cart fit? Is the rest room clean and stocked with supplies?

Go to your web site and place an order. Does your site load quickly? Is it easy to find specific products? Does the order form work? What communication does a customer receive when they place an order (e.g., an email confirmation)? Submit a question via email and see what response you receive. Are the links on your web site (internal and external) working? You also want to know if proper sales techniques are being followed. Although a customer will never complain because your staff didnt attempt to upsell them, your bottom line can suffer when this important step is missed. Plus, helping customers get everything they need in one stop can increase their satisfaction and loyalty. Are sales people recommending additional products and telling customers about optional services, such as a maintenance agreement? If they are not, your business is losing revenue and profit.

When you see yourself as your customers do, you can identify problems that may be costing you sales. Make it easy to do business with you and watch your profits increase!

What Are You Giving God?

What are you giving God?
You ask Him occasionally
Sometimes continually
For things excessively
Things most necessary
Important for your image
To uphold your visage
Your pride a barrage
Your lusts a mirage
That easily camouflage
What you truly want
Desires down deep
You dream and keep
Though your hope
Seems most bleak
Considering how you
Dreadfully speak
Wants far beneath
You should not
Merely bequeath
Instead boldly seek
Put feet to your faith
Practice some grace
Pursue God's face
Not just His hand
Touch Daddy's heart
Don't just come to get
And than up and depart
Move beyond murmuring
Conquer complaining
Enter into thanksgiving
Relinquish your control
Let fully go and be whole
Don't say you're the Lord's
When you maintain control
Concerning where to live
Dictate how much to give
Christ wants all your life
Not merely a tithe or tip
Yet you do resist and quip
Say no to God with the lip
Limit and shackle Christ
By your unyielded life
Demands and standards
Repeated denials froward
A miniscule menial mentality
Self-centered life for me
Me, myself, and only I
No wonder why you cry
Flail in frustration and fuss
Cuss as you drive the bus
Trying to lead and navigate
Your inability apparent
Self-willed you are errant
Godliness is not about gain
It is taking up your cross
Enduring and denying self
To serve Jesus holy Name!
Not money and profane fame
Choose therefore your god!
If money, than be not angry
When promises of prosperity
For humble obedient servants
Delay in there coming to you
Instead wisely ask yourself
What must I endeavor to do
For blessings and breakthrough?
Release what you require
To get what you desire
Catch fresh consuming fire
To ignite your destiny
Forge ahead with intensity
Overthrow fearful timidity
Replace angst with peace
Let your soul now feast
Prosperity begins within
If not there, you'll not win
Die to your defiant rights
Let the Lord arise to fight
Triumph over your battles
Cause the enemy to scatter
Lead you in righteousness
Seek His face to lovingly kiss
His heart to tenderly embrace.
Prayer is the pleasant place
To find joy, glory, and grace
Worship God and happily taste!
Don't let consumerism erase
Your personhood and passion
Regain purpose and take action!
You quickly ask for the best
But yourself give God the rest
Complain about every test
Trials, tribulations, transition
Seeking self-actualization
Disregarding degradation
Christ's brutal crucifixion
For you He paid the price
To give you newness of life.
As for you, what in return
Will you purpose to do?
Can Jesus count on you?
To make known to humanity
Divine love, life, and liberty?
Or will you carry on merely
To sustain yourself entirely?
When will you sacrificially give?
Save lost souls needing to live?
For these Jesus bled and died
Not for greed, ego, and pride.

7 Days in Heaven with AJAX

AJAX has become the talk of the town in recent months. A whole array of sites are using the new technology to craft websites that are just a little more fancy than in the days of Lynx. Although the question does arise, are we utilising the immense power that AJAX has placed into our receiving hands wisely? Naturally sites love to offer the resemblance of a standalone application to their doting users, but after all, this is the Internet. It is the stage and we are the audience!

Evidently, its all fine and dandy in many respects, a website telling me in real-time that Ive made a momentous error in filling in a basic form. I wriggle under my desk as AJAX awakes to point me in the right direction. Thats great! However, with scientists currently working on artificial intelligent robots, should we not be aspiring to weave our websites in such a way? After all, there is an abundance of psychology that is fed into the computer every second of everyday. Every instance when we fulfil our own autocratic tendencies by pushing our mouse left and right.

Anyone on the Internet these days can become anyone they choose to be. Social networking sites such as MySpace, Virb and a plethora of others, merely settle for the same old routines. Its hard to ignore the fact that many of these sites simply glide on past the more complex theories out there which would make their system that more engaging. After all, I already know what I want, but I do not know what you offer. Instead of me telling you what I want to see, you tell me what you have for me. Now that would be different!

Its clear to see that when a user navigates throughout your website, they are taking the path they desire the most. It is far from a random path composed of random clicks, but rather an intricate projection of our current state. Such as, if there is no referral link, could we make the supposition that they were linked to this site via a friend, and really have no such interest in that page? How about if a female is browsing many pictures of the same gender, is she a lesbian, lonely or just insecure? This is a question of core emotions; its the cognitive processes which are so abundant when browsing the Internet. It sure is worth questioning whether or not AJAX could be the means of gathering psychological profiles on visitors. Our experiences on the Internet could be both eerie and greatly enchanting.

An Internet that surpasses the vexatious ability to point out our errors and instead, skip beyond and offer the tailored solution now would that be a dose of undiluted ecstasy combined with a one way trip to Utopia? Probably!
